Who are we?

Phil Hartwick

Phil is the founder of Updraft and builds on over 35 years of career experience as a team specialist.  He has worked in, and coached a wide range of teams in the private, public and not for profit sectors.  More recently, some of Phil’s clients have included ANZ, NZ Police, The Treasury, The Reserve Bank, Aotea Pathology, Aeroqual, Provoke and Inland Revenue.

Phil was introduced to team building concepts early in his career through an extended program in team facilitation and total quality management (TQM). Having applied many of the concepts successfully within his own teams, Phil has over the last 30 years built upon this foundation to become a leading team development specialist.

Today, Phil works closely with teams at all levels to develop and test Updraft’s robust team development frameworks and tools, helping leaders uplift their team performance.  

Belinda Bryant

Belinda’s first career as an international mergers and acquisitions lawyer gave her insights into many different organisations and their effectiveness operationally and at senior leadership levels.  She has used these insights in the last 10 years to develop a varied consulting practice as a facilitator and coach.  Belinda’s current clients include The Treasury, Russell McVeagh, Kiwibank, Westpac and the Ministry of Education.

She has recently added a Post Graduate Certificate in Professional Development from Victoria University to her Bcom/LLb(hons) and is currently completing the Neuroleadership Institute Brain Based Coaching Certificate.  

Belinda brings a strong business perspective to her consulting and is passionate about ideas to support New Zealand to thrive in the rapidly changing global economy.  People also comment on her warmth and ability to quickly establish rapport and communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organisations she works with.


Shaun Sheldrake

Shaun has 20+ years experience as a learning and development professional across corporate, consulting services and not for profit organisations.

After working inside large corporates he became a director of Inspire Group, leading the development and growth of their technology enabled learning solutions before taking on a strategic management role with NZIM.  

Shaun brings a combination of strengths and passions; technology and systemization on one hand and people and creativity on the other.  He has strong business acumen, with a talent for finding novel solutions to optimise the value people can provide to organisations.  Shaun has an ability to deliver efficient, scalable and beautifully designed solutions.
